Volunteers needed for Surfers Path Marathon May 22

  Team Tola Famlies… We are looking for Capitola Jr. Guards and their parents to help out at the Surfers Path Marathon Sunday May, 22nd.   The Capitola Jr. Guard aid station will be at privates on Opal Cliff Drive, 6:30 am to 10:00am.   We will be handing out water, gatorade & goo to the competitors, along with cheering them on!  If you are only available for a couple hours that is great too, the more the merrier.   Please feel free to pass this on to any Capitola Jr. Guard parents or kids who might be interested in helping out.   Thank you all so much for volunteering! Open Positions – City of Santa Cruz Beach Lifeguard I

The City of Santa Cruz Marine Rescue Division is now recruiting for the position of Beach Lifeguard I. Tryout dates for 2016 will be March 5th and March 12th. Please arrive at Lifeguard Headquarters on the wharf at 8:00am for check-in.  Testing will begin with a 1,000m swim at 9:00am sharp.  Completed applications can be turned in at time of tryouts.   If you successfully pass the physical portion of the testing process, you will be scheduled for an interview on the afternoon of March 6th or March 13th respectively. Please note that in order to try out you must: Be age 18 (or turning 18) by December 31st, 2016 Have a valid California Driver’s License and bring proof of safe driving record (printed from DMV not online) This is an amazing job opportunity for those that are interested in marine rescue, public safety, and working in an outdoor social environment. Lifeguard 1 serves as a promising start for those interested in future careers in firefighting, healthcare, education, and parks & recreation amongst others. It is also the first step in becoming a Junior Lifeguard Instructor. Requirements for 2016 Team Tola Jr Guard Instructors

For all interested and returning Team Tola Jr Guard Instructors, there are new training and qualification requirements for the 2016 sessions. From the City of Capitola jobs site, “In order to be hired as a Capitola Junior Lifeguard instructor in 2016, you must fulfill all the training and meet all the standards set forth by the Santa Cruz Marine Safety Division (SCMSD) and United States Lifeguard Association (USLA). You must meet all these standards or you will not be eligible to be hired as a Capitola Junior Lifeguard Instructor.”   Key things we want to highlight for you: All instructors must pass the qualification swim Qualification swim dates are: Mark 5, March 12,  March 19 and June 4 There are Rookie Junior Guard Trainings and Testing days There is a Title 22 Certification requirement   Complete details of trainings and requirements, qualification swims and more are available at cityofcapitola.org/jobs.   Please share this information with friends and family who may be interested in becoming or returning as an instructor.
